Haitong Bank on Polish banking outlook at Fitch conference

Kamil Stolarski, analyst at Haitong Bank in Poland, CFA, participated in a panel discussion organised by Fitch Ratings

A Haitong Bank representative was invited to take part in a panel discussion at Fitch Ratings "Emerging Europe Sovereign and Bank Outlook” annual conference. Kamil Stolarski, who was named the best banking sector analyst in Poland in 2016, according to an annual ranking published by Gazeta Giełdy Parkiet, was a participant of a discussion about the sector outlook in Poland. The discussion was chaired by James Watson, managing director at Fitch Ratings.

“Given Polish capital requirements and the bank tax, ROE in the range of 15-16% is rather unattainable for Polish banks going forward, but a return to a ROE of ca 11-12% is possible”, Mr. Stolarski said during the discussion. The analyst also commented on the FX mortgages issue, stating that the banks did not receive strong enough incentives to convert in the past, and that the issue seems to be postponed for the future.”
