Haitong Bank improves its capital ratio

Haitong Securities Co. Ltd. votes EUR 419 mln for a capital increase of its subsidiary Haitong Bank, international investment bank

The endowment is aimed at supporting the realization of “Haitong Bank 2025” new development strategy. After this transaction, the CET1 of Haitong Bank will go up to 20.4% and the Total Capital to 20.5%.

Haitong Securities Co. Ltd. is one of leading securities companies in China. In 2016 the company’s consolidated net income amounted to USD 1.1 billion with consolidated revenues of USD 4 billion. The Board of Directors of Haitong Securities gave the green light for a capital increase of EUR 419 million for Haitong Bank. This international investment bank with its headquarters in Lisbon has been acquired by Haitong Securities in 2015. The operation will require an approval of the regulator on Chinese market.

- The decision about the capital increase is aimed at seeing the Bank through the realization of the “Haitong Bank 2025” new development strategy. The purpose of this effort is adjusting of an investment bank’s operation to the new trends shaping the sector and current challenges on financial markets – Bartłomiej Dmitruk, Senior Country Officer at Haitong Bank in Poland explains.

The new strategy is being implemented from March 2017. The “Haitong Bank 2025” business model is client focused and is based on three distinctive business pillars: Investment Banking, Markets and Alternative Products. It clearly focuses on the emerging markets, its close relationship with China, as well as in strengthening the Bank's distribution capacity and its product offerings through its main distribution platforms, London, New York and Shanghai.
